The Perpetual Ethical SRI Fund aims to provide long-term capital growth and regular income through investment in quality shares of ethical and socially responsible companies.
The Fund seeks to meet the needs of investors who seek attractive long-term returns by investing in companies that match their own personal social, environmental and ethical preferences.
The Fund will not invest in companies that derive a material proportion of their revenue from the manufacture or sale of generally ethically unacceptable products and services such as the following:
- alcohol
- gambling
- tobacco
- uranium and nuclear
- armaments (including weapons)
- fossil fuels (upstream)
- genetic engineering
- pornography
- animal cruelty (cosmetic testing)
Companies are also subject to social responsible investment (SRI) screening to evaluate how their practices impact society and the environment.
At the same time, the Fund offers investors all the benefits of Perpetual’s proven investment philosophy and approach. We only invest in a company when we believe its share price is attractive relative to its return potential. Perpetual seeks to hold positions for the long term, provided that the quality of the business remains unchanged and the price remains attractive.
Perpetual is a signatory to the United Nations-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI).

Features and Benefits
-
A fund for ethical investors
The Fund is designed to meet the needs of investors who want to invest in companies that satisfy a range of social, environmental and ethical considerations.
-
Screening Process
An ethical and socially responsible investment screening process seeks to identify quality companies that have satisfied our range of ethical, environmental and socially responsible investment criteria.
-
Outstanding Track Record
The Fund has delivered strong returns over the long-term and has outperformed the broader market – an indication that investing in ethical and sustainable companies may not necessarily compromise investment returns.
-
Flexibility to seek broader opportunities
The Fund can invest in a broad range of companies, including companies not held in the S&P/ASX300 Index. The ability to invest in smaller companies provides the Fund with another potential source of returns.
OUR ETHICAL SRI SCREENING PROCESS
Perpetual’s Ethical SRI strategy uses the same investment process as the broad Australian equities strategies. However, there is an additional screening process undertaken to develop the investable universe for this strategy, and it requires specialist research.
The Portfolio Measurement Report
The Portfolio Measurement Report looks at the environmental, social and governance (ESG) attributes of Perpetual's Ethical SRI Fund. It contains information on the fund’s carbon footprint, fund contribution towards positive environmental and social goals, as well as ESG metrics and ratings. The Q&A provides useful background on the report.

Investment Objective
Aims to: provide long-term capital growth and regular income through investment predominantly in quality shares of Australian ethical and socially responsible companies; and outperform the S&P/ASX 300 Accumulation Index (before fees and taxes) over rolling three-year periods.
Investment Approach
Perpetual researches companies of all sizes using consistent share selection criteria. Perpetual's priority is to select those companies that represent the best investment quality and are appropriately priced. In determining investment quality, investments are carefully selected on the basis of four key investment criteria:
- conservative debt levels
- sound management
- quality business and
- recurring earnings.
In addition to the above investment approach, Perpetual utilises a strategy for screening ethical and socially responsible investments (see "Environmental, social, governance and ethical factors" -in the Perpetual Wholesale PDS).
The Fund may have up to 20% exposure to investments in international shares.
Derivatives may be used in managing the Fund.
