As the divisional director of neurosciences, cancer and infection medicine at Royal Melbourne Hospital, Dr Kate Drummond has dedicated her career to improving quality of life. Yet the stark reality is that with the most common type of brain tumours Dr Drummond treats, all of her patients will die – it may be within a year or within 10 years. Her focus is on keeping her patients well enough to do the things that are most important to them in the time they have left.
