The changing face of Australian share investing

Investment universe broadening for Perpetual’s Australian share funds

"Globalisation has seen the Australian sharemarket change markedly over the past 20 years. Companies are increasingly earning their revenues from overseas operations, begging the question, ‘what is an Australian company'?"
- Emilio Gonzalez, Chief Investment Officer, Perpetual Investments.

At Perpetual, we believe fund managers should evolve in response to the global economy’s transformation and leverage this trend to enhance performance for investors. As such, effective 1 May 2006, Perpetual will be broadening the investment universe for many of our Australian share funds enabling them to invest a proportion of their assets in shares listed on stock exchanges outside Australia (ie offshore-listed companies).

We have undertaken this new initiative with the aim of improving the potential for higher returns for investors – without any material change in the risk profile of the funds. We will invest in companies listed on offshore exchanges on an opportunistic basis – if we believe they represent superior value or greater performance potential than Australian-listed companies.
