Our Philosophy
Perpetual believes that markets are semi-efficient, and that opportunities exist to add value through the selection of good quality, well-priced securities. Investment in quality securities, we believe, minimises the downside risk. These securities can be identified by thorough, fundamental in-house research.Added value comes from stock selection within each asset class. Our philosophy for each asset class can be summed up as:
- Australian Shares - Quality, value, bottom-up selection, in-house fundamental research
- Overseas Shares - Quality, value, bottom–up selection, in-house fundamental research
- Listed Property - Active, focus on quality assets, managed by Perpetual James Fielding
- Fixed Income - Enhanced, passive government component, active credit component.
- First Registered & Mezzanine Mortgages - Internal bottom-up research, and semi-government disciplined assessment of default risk and security.
- Cash and Enhanced Cash- High quality securities
Our Process
Perpetual’s Diversified funds aim to provide investors with long-term capital growth and income by investing in a diversified portfolio of growth and income assets. In the case of the Split Growth Fund, Perpetual offers diversified exposure to domestic and international equities. We monitor the performance of these funds against their neutral benchmarks internally.
We first identify the risk expectations of the target investor. Our objective is to identify an asset mix that provides the most efficient trade-off between risk and return.
Each multi-sector fund is designed to reflect different investor risk profiles. To determine an appropriate strategic asset allocation (SAA) within the investment time frame and risk tolerance of each risk profile, Perpetual uses historical data to determine an efficient allocation of asset classes.
TAA strategies for the Diversified portfolios are actively managed to enhance portfolio performance by favouring asset classes that perform best under certain conditions and are regarded as undervalued.
