Awards and scholarships
Perpetual manages many awards and scholarships in the areas of medical research, fine arts, music, education and literature. These are a result of charitable trusts set up by people whose vision was to provide opportunities and recognition to individuals who excel in their chosen fields. The following are just some of the programs available for individuals and organisations which have been established through Perpetual.
Medical research
The Clive & Vera Ramaciotti Awards for biomedical research
Australia's largest private charitable foundations dedicated to the advancement of biomedical research. Visit our Ramaciotti website for further information.
Fine arts
The Alice Bale Art AwardsAustralia's premier award for traditional realism and figurative art, and includes a $40,000 travelling scholarship and two cash art prizes for the separate categories of painting and drawing. The Helen Lempriere Travelling Art Scholarship
The Lempriere Bequest contributes to the NSW Ministry of the Arts Award valued at $40,000. This scholarship provides assistance to a contemporary artist residing in NSW at the outset of their career to study art overseas for one to two years at a recognised art institution, or to undertake a study program or workshops and study with an artist. The Helen Lempriere National Sculpture Award
This is the richest sculpture prize in Australia made up of seven awards totalling $145,000. Artists are invited to submit a sculpture in competition for the annual Award. The winner will receive $95,000 in cash and professional development to further their education and skill in sculpture. The winning artist's sculpture will become part of the Lempriere Collection and will be permanently sited at Parks Victoria's Werribee Park. Music
Johnny Dennis Music Awards
The Johnny Dennis Music Awards consists of three prizes, each worth $5,000. Prizes include Best Song, Best Instrumental and Travel Grant/Professional Development Award. More information is available from Australian Guild of Screen Composers, who administer the awards.
The co-trustee of the Johnny Dennis Music Awards, Mr Malcolm Harrison, announced last night that composers Gregg Arthur, Michael Hope, Jay Collie, Jasper Somerville-Collie and David Chapman were the winners of the 2008 awards.
Winners in each category received a prize of $5000 for their compositions. The category of Best Popular Song was shared between two winners.
Best Popular Song: Gregg Arthur and Michael Hope – Let’s fly to New York and,
Jay Collie and Japer Somerville-Collie – One Tree Mile
Best Movie Theme: Michael Hope - Winter Song
Best Instrumental: David Chapman – Black River Ramble
Paul Lowin Awards
The prizes awarded are; an Orchestral Prize valued at $25,000 and a Song Cycle Prize valued at $15,000. In addition both categories have prizes for highly commended works in the amount of $500 and $300 each.

EducationEllen Violet Brown Scholarship
For indigenous students applying themselves to full-time study in Western Australia. Applications can be made through tertiary institutions in Western Australia, as advertised.
Literature
The Grace Leven Prize for Poetry
The Grace Leven Prize is awarded each year to a published Australian poet. Entries or nominations are not accepted.
The Kibble Awards for Women Writers
The Kibble Literary Awards began in 1994 and are awarded to Women Writers of a published book of fiction or non-fiction classified as ‘life writing’. The 2009 applications will open in September/October and close in November 2008. Updated application forms and guidelines will be available later in the year.

The Patrick White Award Literary Award was established in 1975 to advance “Australian literature by encouraging the writing of novels, short stories, poetry and/or plays for publication or performance”. The Trust was founded with the prize money awarded to Patrick White when he became the first Australian to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1973.
The Award is presented each November following the consideration of nominations by a judging panel. The award is currently $30,000.
