Learn about superannuation

What is superannuation?

Superannuation, or super, is Australia’s savings and investment scheme to help fund the growing retirement costs of our ageing population and longer lifespans.

Your super is your personal retirement savings and investment account. Superannuation is a structure for investing, not an investment asset itself. The returns on your super will depend on how you choose to invest it.

The super system is governed by federal law covering compulsory and voluntary contributions, tax concessions and other incentives, as well as how and when you can access your super money.
