Perpetual's Industrial Share Fund

Industrial shares over the last year

It’s been difficult for industrial share funds to perform given the recent performance of industrial stocks. All sectors in the industrials market recorded a loss and less than 10% of companies posted a positive return in the last financial year.

What does the future hold?

Investing in quality stocks with high, secure dividend yields is the key to returns in times of instability. By sticking to our tried and tested investment philosophy of investing in reasonably valued stocks displaying these characteristics, we expect that our portfolio will continue to pay attractive dividend yields.

While this has not been a pleasant time for investors, it has resulted in increased buying opportunities. We see these recent share price declines as an opportunity to purchase companies with strong balance sheets, sustainable earnings growth and solid dividend income that are reasonably valued.

Why Perpetual’s Industrial Share Fund?

  • Having a strong focus on quality helps us avoid the ‘value traps’.
  • By focussing on the fundamentals and investing our clients’ money conservatively, our Industrial Share Fund has outperformed its index over not only the past year but consistently over an extensive period (as at 30 June 2008).
  • Our Industrial Share Fund has traditionally paid an attractive dividend yield, and will continue to do so.
  • Our investment philosophy is to invest in quality companies that are reasonably valued, like Harvey Norman and Billabong.
  • Investing in quality stocks with high, secure dividend yields is the key to returns in times of instability.
