2013

Australian Fund Manager of the Year
Multi-Sector Australia Category Winner
Emerging Manager Australia Category Winner
Domestic Equities Australia Category Finalist

Perpetual Investments has been named Australian Fund Manager of the Year by Morningstar in its Morningstar Awards 2013.

In addition, Perpetual Investments has also received the accolades of Multi-Sector Australia Category Winner and Emerging Manager Australia Category Winner for the Perpetual SHARE-PLUS Long-Short Fund. We were also a finalist in the Domestic Equities Australia Category.

As one of Australia's largest independent wealth managers, we are honoured to be recognised by Morningstar for what we do best. Morningstar said Perpetual's well-established investment approach, implemented by its team of experienced investors, enabled the firm to deliver commendable returns across the business in 2012.

These awards were based on recent and long term performance, as well as a fund’s people and processes and the likelihood of being able to deliver into the future. Morningstar acknowledged that ‘a penchant for quality’ was key to Perpetual’s success along with the careful management of wider corporate challenges in recent years.

The Morningstar Fund Manager of the Year Award identifies and recognises the Australian-domiciled fund manager which, in Morningstar’s opinion, has demonstrated funds management excellence across multiple asset classes in the year for which the award has been made.

Hall Of Fame and Small Companies Fund Manager Award

Perpetual has been recognised in the 13th Annual Australian Fund Manager Awards 2011. John Sevior, Head of Equities (currently on sabbatical) was inducted into the Hall Of Fame and the Perpetual Smaller Companies Fund won the Small Companies Fund Manager Award.

The winner of the prestigious Hall Of Fame Award is selected for their contribution to the industry over and above their work mandate by the Australian Fund Manager Foundation members and previous award winners. Previous award winners include Kerr Nelson (Platinum Asset Management), Chris Cuffe (Social Ventures Australia) and David Paradice (Paradice Investment Management).

The Fund Manager Awards are selected by Ibbotson, a Morningstar company, based on both qualitative and quantitative factors. Ibbotson puts forward four finalists and recommends a winner in each category, which the Fund Manager Foundation members approve.

Winner – Best Australian Small Cap Shares

The Perpetual Smaller Companies Fund has won the Best Australian Small Cap Shares category in the Financial Review Smart Investor Blue Ribbon Awards 2011.

The Awards were judged by Morningstar, who assessed a range of criteria including a fund’s rating and performance. In awarding Perpetual, the judges noted our prudent and effective approach of focusing on quality, attractively valued stocks.

Winner of Australian Equities Long Short category

Perpetual has won the Australian Equities Long Short category at the Money Management/Lonsec Fund Manager of the Year Awards for the Perpetual SHARE-PLUS Long-Short Fund.

Finalists and winner of the awards were selected by Lonsec based on a combination of past performance and forward looking measures. The Perpetual SHARE-PLUS Long-Short Fund has outperformed the S&P/ASX 300 Accumulation Index by 6.1% over the year to 30 April 2011.

At the awards, we were also honoured as finalists in the Ethical/SRI Manager category for the Perpetual Ethical SRI Fund and as Asset Allocator for our diversified funds.

Money magazine – Best Fund Manager and Best Australian Share Fund

Perpetual has been recognised as the Best Fund Manager in the Money magazine Best of the Best Awards 2011. The judges noted the high calibre of our investment management team, based on their depth of experience, expertise and commitment to our investment philosophy. We have won this award four out of the eight years it has been awarded.

Our WealthFocus Investment Funds Concentrated Equity Fund has also been recognised as the Gold Winner for Best Australian Share Funds, for the third year in a row, with our WealthFocus Investment Funds Australian Share Fund in equal third place in this category.

We achieved second place in three other categories:

The Awards use ratings from those highest-rated by three leading research houses Morningstar, Zenith Investment Partners and Standard & Poor’s as a basis to select winners.

The judge’s selection was based on a retail fund open to new investment with a minimum initial investment of $25,000 or less. Funds were ranked according to the total points awarded for their rating by each research house. A further filtering process was then applied.

Ethical Investor Fund of the Year

Perpetual’s Wholesale Ethical SRI Fund has won Ethical Investor Fund of the Year at the 10th annual Australian Sustainability Awards. The awards recognise best practice in corporate sustainability across Australian companies.

The managed funds section of the awards was judged by Lonsec. In awarding us Fund of the Year, Lonsec noted that the fund is a very stable, true-to-label ethical option for investors. It is differentiated from some peers because resource stocks, including BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto are excluded from its investment universe.

The Fund outperformed the S&P/ASX 300 Accumulation Index by 3.9% over the three years to October 2010, which is a comparatively strong result within the Lonsec-rated universe.

Bronze medal – Best for-profit superannuation fund

The Perpetual WealthFocus Super Plan has been awarded joint bronze medal in Your Money Magazine’s ‘Best for-profit superannuation fund’ category.

Medal winners were chosen based on an independent study, conducted by Your Money Magazine’s staff of researchers, which looked at performance consistency over different time periods and investment options.

Funds were ranked according to the total points awarded for their rating by each research house. A further filtering process was then applied.
