Perpetual’s Australian Equities business comprises our fund management activities for both active and quantitative Australian equities for our institutional and adviser customers.
The design of the Australian Equities business allows for nimble decision-making and the delivery of end to end services to our clients or customers within the same team.
Perpetual is commonly referred to as a ‘bottom up’ fund manager. Australian Equities selects shares on the basis of stock-specific fundamentals and then by the relative value of the shares. The majority of our analysis and research emphasis is at the individual company level, as we believe that company characteristics and qualities are the most important determinants of share prices over the longer term.
At Perpetual, we seek to buy shares at levels where we believe the intrinsic value of the company is greater than the current market price. We will invest in companies when the market price is below what we perceive to be fair value given a company’s fundamentals and market conditions. Our portfolios typically demonstrate ‘value’ characteristics.
The Australian Equities business encompasses functions including active asset management, quantitative asset management, institutional sales and servicing, advisor distribution, analytics and research, investment administration, and business intelligence.
